How To Properly Tune A Tuba
A tuning is essential for sound of the tuba player and the sound of the band. A section lower-tune, good, is much more powerful and more adds to its overall of the group. A tuba-tune will also have the best response and regularity.Unfortunately, properly adjusting a tuba is a series of compromise - no method will cause a perfectly tuned instrument. This article offers my method for tuning, that which is commonly taught. In this method, the low register is more important. Any adjustment, a note will be listening to while another ticket with the same combination of valve will not. I recommend basing the tuning on the footnotes to register because "sliding" notes correct field while avoiding the distortion is more difficult in the lower register.Open Tuning (hand Tuning slide) the first thing to do while setting a tuba is developed open partial lower (BBb tuba, Bb low; the CC tuba, low C and F, low F snorkel). Make sure that this note is to listen, a good sound. Then, try the higher partial and make a good compromise between them, but don't forget that the partial low is more important. This compromise will be different for each instrument and player.2nd Valve SlideNext, tune the 2nd slide valve. This should be a true half-step below the open tuning and have full, powerful sound. Yet once, check the partial above and to make trade-offs that if absolutely necessary.1st Valve SlideTune valve 1st slide. It should be a step to open below partial complete set. Check the superior partials.3rd slide Valve and 2 & 3 the third slide adjustment is important. Resolve this slide for a full 1 and 1/2 steps below open partial low (BBb tuba, G;) CC tuba, A; (F tuba, D). However; play a note with the combination of valve 2 and 3. If it is sharp, add a few extra length to the 3rd slide. The 3rd valve is rarely played on the own.4th side of Valve and 1 & 3Now tune the 4th valve low slide partial (BBb tuba, F;) CC tuba, g. F tuba, CC). This should be firmly in the listening, as it is common in the tuba parts. It is also a very powerful note most snorkel, so it should be to resolve without worrying about sliding upwards or downwards. If the step all over the partial low a little remains flat (C on a BBb tuba), 1 and 3 should be a good alternative, since we have the 3rd slide valve slightly longer to be.Check TuningSlight adjustments will probably be made after setting, differences in the horns and the players. This method is not the only method used to tune a tuba, but this is the method I prefer and is taught in most of the tuba players I know.
