The Joy of Relaxing - How Bob Ross Helped Me Rest

Every Sunday after mass, the first thing that I would when I got home was to take my shoes off tour to the television and lay out on the couch. The channel was the local station of PBS and the show "The Joy of Painting" featuring Bob Ross. I have been guaranteed a wonderful nap Sunday afternoon. No, not because the show was boring, but rather because it was so relaxing. There is little about Bob Ross and his work that made it so easy to nod peacefully.Something nothingWhen Bob would start one of his paintings, you may have the impression that it is an abstract piece. Pretty soon, and I mean soon as he had only about 27 minutes to work with you would see bushes, flowers, rocks, mountains, rivers, lakes and booths even appear out of nowhere. Very experienced painters, it is like the 101 oil painting, but for me, it was magical. It was fascinating to watch him create the illusion of reflection of the water. All this with a few colors and skill a bit with some brushes and a knife. The colorsRoss does not use too many different colours on his palette. As a result, ochre yellow, Van Dyke Brown, Phthalo Blue and Alizarin Crimson become familiar friends. After watching a few concerts, you would be able to predict the colors go together for the next part of the painting. And still, you knew it would end by signing his name with Bright Red with a bit of odourless paint thinner.Happy little treesBob would often speak of "happy little trees" and rock "entitled to friend a little here.". You began the impression that it was you tell the story of the painting as it has been created. No there was no real plot, but you found you really take care on the small tree and the old mountain and proud River. If the show has gone on long enough, it could have started by naming. And who could have is doing very well.Bob RossThe man was always so laid back and also his voice always quiet and peaceful. A large part of why the show was so relaxing watching, it was so relaxing to listen to. It would be not just talk about painting or technique that he used. It would also be talking animals, that he had a letter from a fan or a funny story or in one of his courses. Some of his own philosophies in life would emerge as his belief that there are no errors, but rather "happy accidents." Have you felt safe and content just sitting there to watch.Recently, I've rediscovered replay of the broadcast on the local PBS channel where I live now. I do not see the shows throughout the week instead of just Sundays now, but the results are the same. I am in my chair and fighting to keep my eyes completely open as Bob Ross works its magic. At the time where as Bob signs with "happy painting and God bless", my response is usually, "zzz...". »
