Why Taking a Break Can Also Make You More Effective At Work
Last year, my husband suggested that I stop working Saturday, so that we could have one day a week to do family stuff and relax. As a work at home mom with two children, I was working every time that I have had the opportunity and the weekends when my husband is home, consisting of a large piece of my work week. The thought of taking off a full day I made nervous. How might be able to maintain the same amount of time efficiency? Despite my fears, I decided to do a test. After all, my family is the reason why I work hard first. What is the point if we do not spend time together?A few months after the implementation of "family day", I realized that my fears were not justified. I was afraid that by transforming Saturday in a day of free work, I would be unable to cope with the requirements of my business, but in fact the opposite is true. By not working on Saturday, I seem to become more is the days that I did. First, that it seemed counter intuitive time, but more that I made a few observations that help explain why working less can be more...Although many of us try to, the bottom line is, you cannot work all the time. If you try, you wind up is burned and there is no way you can do your best in this State. guilt can be a powerful distraction. Until we started the day of the family, I had not developed a clear schedule for me. As a result, I often feel guilty for my family when I was working, and then guilt for my clients when I was not. Once I started to put in place more than a routine, the convictions subsided and I was able to concentrate rained on the tasks.Distancing yourself can be a great way to solve a problem. My occupation can get quite technical and there are often cases when I run problems that appear to be disastrous for the whole of the project. If I try to work through it, often missing the obvious. Taking one day, I come back with a new look and almost always reach a sensible solution in much less time. Even if you do not have a technical profession, sometimes yourself distancing your work can be an excellent way to gain a different perspective on all work related difficulties.Balance is healthy. If you focus you on too much work, it can create problems with your personal relationships, which can in turn cause distracts you in your professional life. It is important to create a sustainable balance life and work for your own personal happiness and the happiness of those around you. Happy people are more effective. You think perhaps by not taking vacation or checking your email over the weekend, you make your business a huge favour. Also noble that this situation, he could not have the impact that you or your organization want really. If you join, you can try to implement a "family day" of your own or take a vacation in which you have taken out. It might surprise you how much you can accomplish when you get back to the grindstone.
