In the net-savvy world it has become common for any business to have a Web site they use mostly for advertising their products and services. With the advent of search engines, it became even easier for customers for the stuff online. For a Web site successful its link should land in the first three pages which brings the search engine and the rank of the page should be high which means many visitors come to the site. This can be obtained by applying the optimization of search engine or commonly known as SEO. It is a marketing strategy that increases the quality and quantity of traffic flow for a particular site through search engines.

SEO affects not only the results of the search engine, but also search image, video search and industry specific vertical search engines. It determines how a search algorithm works and research which is popular with people. When a link on the Web site is subject to a search engine, a spider analyses through a page to collect the links to other pages and stores these pages on the server of the search engine. The information collected from these pages is sent to the indexer, whose job is to retrieve information from these pages as the key words and their weight, the location of the page and other links that are stored for the spider crawling in the future.

Initially, the search engine optimizer algorithms were dependent on the key words, Meta and tags file index provided by the webmaster. Meta tags provided to information on a particular page, but their use for the indexing of pages did a not prove successful as some Webmasters added irrelevant Meta tags to increase the number of visits and earn huge ad revenues. They even change the HTML code of web pages to achieve a good rank for the page. But it was a case of abuse, as it is extracted from the non-relevant pages.

Search engines then began using the algorithm of complex ranking, which have been difficult for webmasters to manipulate to provide Internet users with real results. The rank of the web page was calculated mathematically in functions using strength and quantity of inbound links. Raised to the rank of the page the more likely it was to be considered by a person. Later algorithms have been developed which considered various other factors on the page as the rank and off-page factors such as the hyperlink. Given that the webmasters couldn't manipulate the page rank, they began to Exchange, sell and purchase links, which lead to link spamming and even creating many sites dedicated to this purpose.

Algorithms became more complex by each passing day and search engines main kept their algorithms a secret. Progression in expensive SEO increased, advertisers were paper pay for it, which finally resulted in the web pages of high quality. While investing in SEO is very successful, but at the same time is risky because with no notice prior the algorithms used are related to change and the search engine will stop directing visitors to the page. Many consultants are available on the market that provides SEO services. They manipulate the HTML source code of the web site such as menus, trucks and sometimes even the content of the website to get the most traffic. The search engines such as Yahoo has algorithms that retrieves pages not according the page rank but according to the cost per click or set fees, is if an advertiser wishes to as the page containing its advertising displayed, it should pay money for it. It is a point of controversy, as the only large companies will be able to increase the number of hits to their page, but not small business which could have a page of better quality.
