A lot different to their stereotype rats are amazing, intelligent, sociable and loving creatures. Rats that are generally common in the streets are not the same type as those you get as a pet. There are many different types. They are also cleaner than most other rodents, hamsters and can easily be potty trained - not only what they feel much less too. When you decide to adopt a rat you need to realize that a lot of responsibility that comes with what they are very sociable and need lots of loving care.
Rat Cages
You could look at a rat cage as you do your own home by providing cage accessories for every area of their home. The food should consist of food bowls and water bottles - ensuring that the bolus is to be fixed securely to the cage or it is ceramic. Make sure that their bathroom is far from their food because it could put them out of their food. Provide them with lots of leather and places to sleep as they like to sleep in different places, so try hammocks, igloos, and anything you can find. Use tubes and shelves as living space so they can sit and watch what happens outside the cage.
Water
Be sure you provide your rats with plenty of fresh clean water in their bottle of water all day. Give the water bottle a thorough cleaning once a week.
Supply
Rat food should be available at any pet shop in granular form or you can feed them a healthy and balanced diet of vegetables and protein sources. Rats do not eat raw meat and if you give them any kind of make sure it is cooked.
Litter Box
Rats are very intelligent and can be easily trained to use the toilet in a litter box and will continue to use the litter box instead of the rest of the cage. As they are clean animals, it is easy for them to recognize a litter box and use it effectively.
Chew toys
As you probably already know the teeth of rodents continues to grow throughout their lifetime so it is imperative that you give them a chew toy to keep their teeth healthy size. A toy non-toxic wood is a great way to do this and there are also various other toys that could be used similarly.
When you buy a rat is a good idea not to buy solitary rats as they can become very lonely to adopt them in pairs is excellent. Despite this, bearing in mind, you can enter a solitary rat to other rats, if you make the effort to do so carefully.
