Career Development Feedback? Or Feed-Forward?

Feedback is defined as the feedback on the performance, a process or activity. If we love to receive or not, feedback is an essential element of career development. If you do not know how you did, how you will know where you need to improve, grow and develop? Feedback is a look back, it is the examination of what has been done; Yet, the most important factor to receive this information is to determine what you will do with it is going forward.Marshall Goldsmith invented the term "feed-forward" as an alternative to feedback. It is the process of somebody give suggestions for future improvements rather than look back to what they have done in the past. My experience is that the two are essential aspects of career development. You want to get feedback from your manager (or a mentor or a respected colleague) not only on how your performance has been in the past but also obtain input on suggestions for improvement to use in the future.A great way to ensure that you get information that touches on the past and the future is to use questions start/stop/continue. These questions could be posed to your career development, from where you are looking to grow in your career, put the following questions: "what should I start doing?", "what should I stop to me?" and "that must continue to do." The answers to these questions are a look back and a look forward to the performance and the necessary development. For example, if you want to develop improved techniques of negotiation, you can ask, "" what should I start to do that will allow me to improve my skills of negotiation? "" The part of the feedback of the response might be, "you have not yet had enough opportunities to negotiate significant contracts with customers." And the party front-feed of response could be, "Why did attend some meetings of negotiating with the vice President Sales and then, as you gain confidence, start to negotiate with clients on important markets."Information on the behavior past is really only useful if we are able to use it to continue to Excel or make the necessary changes that will help us to improve and to grow. Although we cannot change the past, we can certainly use passed information to help change the future. Using these types of questions on the development of your career and performance allows you to get the feedback form and entry feed-forward, which is essential if you want to increase your career.
