Preparing For a Career Discussion With Your Manager

To have a discussion successful career with your manager, it is important for you to prepare and to reflect on some key elements of advance. You want to be in full possession of your career path and how best to do is to approach your manager with confidence and conviction about your career goals. To prepare for the discussion, start by answering some fundamental questions of yourself and your career: what is your statement of personal mission to your career?This response should focus on what you hope to get through your career.What are your values?This response must contain your top five values in your life. The importance of answering this question is that your current values match your career goals. For example, if you value innovation, influence your career choice and goals.What are your motivations?This response includes examples of what motivates you. What is this work their hectic with shortdeadlines? Is it structured walking or flexible work? As with your values, you want to be sure that your career goals align with your motivatorsWhat is your short-term career goal?This response must be subject, where you see yourself in the next 12 months. If you want to be in a new posting, then you must specify that, as and what could be posting. If you want to stay in your current role but may take on additional functions, and then include that information as a result of this issue.What is your long-term career goals?This response is your ultimate career goal. Some people do not know what it is, but if you do, it is important to share with your manager. This helps your career plan to be adapted to achieve your ultimate career goal.What are your strengths?This answer focuses on your current strengths that you can exploit that you grow in your career.What are your areas of development?It is on the areas where you need to grow so that you can achieve your career goals.What are you ready to do over the next 12 months to reach your career goals?This response should focus on some specific, tactical points that you can work over the next 12 months. Consider your action plan to achieve your goal.After having the answers to these questions and feel comfortable with your answers, it is time to share this information with your manager. Ask your manager for entry into your career goals and whether if they feel that these are reasonable and achievable. Ask for the input on your strengths and development areas and also to request their support in our action plan. This will help your ability to succeed in your goals. Taking the time to answer these questions and prepare your discussion of career, it will be much more productive and, hopefully, a more engaging discussion for you and your manager.
