Denali National Park and Preserve
Boreal forest to alpine tundra and through its many waters, Denali National Park and Preserve is a place of wonder primitive. Make this part of your itinerary when you tour Alaska. In its six million hectares wide, you will find grizzly bears, Dall sheep, caribou, moose, snowshoe hare, tundra swans and golden eagles in number. The view from 20,320 feet high Mount McKinley will take your breath away. Choose a bus tour or make an extended stay in the backcountry. Denali can be as tame or as primitive as you want.
Girdwood
Visit the world's northernmost forest of old growth. Hiking a segment of the Iditarod trail. Ski or snowboard in the winter. Enjoy the Girdwood Forest Fair, beluga whales, Dall sheep and eagles in the summer.
Wheelbarrow
The northernmost city in the United States is a strong and historic treasure. For over 1,000 years native Inupiat Eskimos have lived here. Inupiat Heritage Center strives to convey the story of those who visit Inupiat of Alaska. Witness snowy owls, king eiders, or possibly a mass migration of Ross's gulls. Stand along the edge of the Arctic Ocean. Stop for lunch at Cafe Brower of the 19th century with the jaw of a whale's distinctive arch. No place on earth is like Barrow.
Juneau
If you want an authentic experience of Alaska while visiting Alaska, spend some time in Juneau. See humpback whales and orcas. Experience Glacier Juneau, including Mendenhall Glacier is a massive piece of ice movement of about half a mile range. Fishing here is incredible, but if you prefer you can kayak, hike or zip location.
