New species of plant-eating dinosaur from China
Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, is fast approaching and true to a species of dinosaur is discovered the brand in China. This part of Asia may indicate a privileged place to be prolific in the world to the discoveries of the brand new dinosaur at the moment. Over the last twenty years or so, some new varieties of dinosaurs discovered and named in the 200 years continues. The new dinosaur, described as a member of the ornithopoda (bird-hipped dinosaurs - Ornithischia) adds much to the information of this kind of Chinese dinosaur, until now only a couple of Chinese ornithopods described scientifically.
Yueosaurus tiantaiensis - a brand new species of dinosaurs
The dinosaur studied jointly by a team of Chinese and Japanese scientists, has been appointed tiantaiensis Yueosaurus. A document detailing the analytical work was printed in the scientific journal "Analysis of the Cretaceous."
Known simply a well-preserved but incomplete specimen Y. tiantaiensis is supposed to have been, but a meter high, and tiny enough one.5 meters. He was described as a basal ornithopod. The fossils of such dinosaurs are found on every continent but fossil specimens from China are rare. These animals have a beak, were in all probability mainly vegetarian insects but some species may be eaten and some vertebrates. they had hind legs longer than their front legs, and were in all likelihood optional bipeds, (running on hind legs generally, however, the movement on all fours if necessary). Most were small and slender basal ornithopods, if their descendants would become the first widespread and customary giant herbivorous dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous.
Discovered through road construction
The original fossil material was found in 1998 when construction personnel uncovered the remains of small dinosaur along a road construction project in Tiantai County, Zhejiang Province jap. the situation where the herbivore prehistoric remains were found was the inspiration behind the precise name of this dinosaur. The fossils have been extensively studied in the Natural History Museum of Zhejiang and it was absolutely from this analysis that the relationship between China / Japan team were able to assign the rest to a completely new species.
Tiantaiensis Yueosaurus lived throughout the Cretaceous geological value. Fossils related to this dinosaur have been away from layers of about one hundred million years (Albian stage of the fauna). full name of the new dinosaur, one of a dozen new species described in 0.5 Zhejiang Province over the last twelve months, means that "Dinosaur Tiantai Yue" in Chinese because it was discovered in the county Tiantai and also present in the region used to be on the traditional territory of the State of Yue. the name reflects each mode and ancient China.
Important Chinese Dinosaur Discovery
The new dinosaur is the southernmost basal ornithopod discovered so far on the continent of Asia. it's amazing how little of this kind of dinosaur is the thought of China, especially given the depth of the fossils of animals such as Hypsilophodontids connected from North America and Europe. There may be tiny ornithopods are rare in Asia when put next to the northern hemisphere as an example, or there may be a bias in the fossil record with these small dinosaurs may be under-represented in the fossil record.
Analogues closest living relatives of dinosaurs as tiantaiensis Y. are wallabies, deer and antelope little. Fossils found in burrows in North America and it would be the polar regions of Australia recommends that certain varieties of small ornithopods may have lived underground.
